Røros
The old mountain mining town of Røros is one of the oldest wooden mining towns in Europe, and also one of the few mining towns in the world found worthy of a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The town centre boasts a rare collection of large and well-preserved wooden buildings, made all the more real and authentic by the fact that people still live and work in these buildings. World heritage, national parks, mountain farms, local food and Sami culture are tightly bound together in an area equally rich in cultural monuments and wilderness.
